Hi all,

Please help out with some advice.
I'm new to the bird world and I've managed to keep them quite happy thus far (me thinks) in a large mixed outdoor aviary.
The aviary has 8 diamond doves, 17 rain quail and 2 laughing doves.

One of my diamond doves recently laid 2 eggs a day apart, however I haven't seen the male sitting on the eggs once.
The female incubates the eggs day and night. Rushes to the ground and stuffs herself with seed in a hurry, then back to the eggs.
She has gotten some kisses from her mate but nothing more than affection.

Is that normal? Should I be worried?

It has been years since I had diamond doves, but I think I remember the male helping with incubation as most dove species do. However, I do remember having ring neck dove males that did not help out with brooding eggs as they are supposed to. The hens hatched the eggs on their own and the males did help with feeding the squabs. Good luck.
 
Well nature did what was needed and 1 egg hatched of the 2.

I haven't seen much of the new hatchling but i did manage to get a picture.

Can you see the baby? Cutest thing ever and much smaller than I'd expected.

Well nature did what was needed and 1 egg hatched of the 2. If the squab just hatched the second may hatch in two days which is what normally happens. Eggs are laid two days apart, incubation starts as soon as he first egg is laid, the second egg hatches two days later.

Here's a quick update incase you might be wondering.

The baby is growing at a fantastic rate! Both parents share sitting now. The second egg from the clutch didn't hatch.
The first egg of the new clutch has been laid and the other second egg from the first clutch has been pushed out of the nest.
