Why not have a thread for showing off your coops? I know I like the idea. Let's see them.

We decided to dive into backyard chickens about 6 weeks ago. This site was very helpful in our research. We looked at hundreds of coop pics on this site and others. We ordered and received our first five chicks this week. Our coop is a raised 5 x 6 with a slant roof. We'll use the DLM. One side opens completely for cleaning. It has removable door panels for summer ventilation. The run is 28 x 6 with 16 feet covered. We still have to finish the run, but our coop is done.

I won't post a picture of mine. It's just an old poopy shed (literally now with chickens in it). BUT I have big ideas! I am waiting on hubby to help me get started. I want to create a chicken playground outside and have ladders and ledges inside. Also a chicken swing. Curtains or a floral valance on the window and I saved some old chicken wall hangings for the walls. I have a mirror. Might power-wash and paint the inside with leftover paint from my house.

I have square stone pavers and rocks piled and ready to be hauled over. Nothing fancy just used stuff I have got my hands on. I want to plant chicken friendly plants like butterfly bushes and sunflowers in the run and make it feel like a garden space as well. Searching for a short hollow log. :D

Photos aren't mine just inspiration. My pinterest board is currently at 226 pics.

We had an old twin size bed we turned into a coop for our bantams. It turned out well, although now that their almost grown, we do plan on expanding the run with an old dog pen that was given to us. We had trouble figuring out how to cover headboard but still allow ventilation, so we found an old cabinet face and attached it so we can open doors in summer for more ventilation. The only major thing I'd change if doing it over would be to make the run "human size." All in all, I happy with our re-purposed coop!

New Member but we have been lurking for some time now. Just about have our coop finished. Just a few small tweaks left. We have 12 hens and a rooster. 4 nesting boxes, horizontal waterer, and a hanging bucket feeder (thank you BYC for the ideas). We have a pelletized limestone floor. All the screened areas of the coop have metal panels that go over them for the winter. We added the fans as the temps and heat indexes have been brutal this summer. We used dog run panels and a suspended sun shade for our run. I am planning an automatic Ador for our door soon. I have the fans and lights on automatic voice control using the Amazon Echo. We can turn them on or off from the house using our voice. I plan on integrating the door and heat into the Echo too soon. We can also operate all these items from our smartphones from anywhere in the world. Just thought I would post a few photos and get your feedback.

Thanks
Jeff & Faith

Oooooh! I didn't know you could do that with the Amazon echo! I have a remote that I can turn the fan or light on with but voice control is so much cooler!

I am a self professed gadget guy. Recently got an Echo for my birthday so I am always looking for new ways to use it. I have a Hue hub and an Insteon hub so the Echo interfaces with both of those to allow control of our hue bulbs and insteon devices. Works great.
