As a rookie goose owner I had a question. I have 5 geese - 2 Chinese, 3 Pomerian Saddlebacks. They are about 3 months old. They range close to my house during the day and at night I put them in the 3 X 8 chicken tractor to protect them from predators. To my question: is there ever an age/size these geese will be where they are no longer in danger from raccoons. I'm wanting to put them in my uncovered chicken run at night after the hens are in the coop. It would be easier herding them into it than the tractor. They'd be safe from coyotes but obviously raccoons can scale the 6' walls and get into where the geese would be. Thoughts? Thank you!

I would keep putting them in something with a roof or wire top. The geese I had years ago were a lot like chickens when asleep they are ASLEEP. I have seen a coyote jump a 7 foot fence like it was an everyday thing. The feet did not even touch the fence.
How about making a hoop run to put them in? Cost effective and would be easier to herd them or lure them into then a chicken tractor. You could even add a tarp in the winter to keep the weather off them.

Raccoons won't generally bother full-grown geese, but they will steal eggs out from under sitting geese and unprotected nests. Mine are penned at night and raccoons do come through. I have lost 2 young (less than 4 months) to raccoons since I've been raising them. Both times it was my fault for not having enough experienced adults with them. But then, I rock between 65 Permanent Party to 100 during hatching/grow-out season. I NEVER leave feed out overnight, either. The coons will pass through looking to see if anything is left, but they don't bother the geese and the geese don't bother them. Goslings are not raised here except in their own safe facility or let out without having bonded with at least one set of adults and never before they are at least 2 months old. They protect each other, but do need an established bond for starters. It's fun watching a hatch group "try on" parents!
