Hi

I have two hens that are down, a little hunched over and sit constantly wont walk they even push there legs out a little.

We have wormed them, they will eat readily and drink. They are just about to start laying in fact we got pout first egg yesterday

any help would be very welcome

CBA101...... Many Thanks

They have been like this for about a week, is that normal and will they recover ?

If you pick them up and put them in a different place, can they walk around normally? Do they sit on their nest box, all fluffed up? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then they are probably broody.

If the answer is no, then they are probably sick. If they are sick, you need to describe their symptoms and progression more clearly so readers can try to figure out what illness they have.

This is the 4th and 5th chicken that have had this problem. It starts out that they are puffed up and their necks sunken into their body. They mope around for a day or two and then they can't walk. It is like their leg is broken. The first 3 have died. It appears to be one leg that has a problem and it seems like it is at the knee. One leg will be fine but the other leg prohibits them from walking at all. When they try they fall on their face. The leg that is hurt can sometimes be stretched out in front of them while they are lying down. And when I try and stand them up, their toes are curled up and they won't open them unless i spread them out. I encourage them to eat and drink by hand feeding them. After a day or two they start eating on their own and appear like they are going to recover. We have been feeding them scrambled eggs, bread, grasshoppers and crickets that we catch. I have been giving them Vitamin E and B12. I bought yogurt but haven't given it to them yet. I have checked them for mites, no signs. Their poop color looks brownish with white but somewhat runny. Because they can't move, they are lying in it and i have to clean them up 2 or 3 times a day.
