Clark Farm, Higganum, CT

AGREED, BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

The chickens that I picked up yesterday are certainly not what we paid for, was advertised or what I expected. I am very upset. After purchasing online they never called. When I called in April she indicated we could pick them up at the end of June or beginning of July. When I called in the end of June she stated that I could get the hens in a week or two and she would call. Never contacted me again. When I called at the end of July she indicated she would be on vacation and we set up a time to pick up Aug. 5th. At that point the birds should have been going on 12-14 weeks which I was fine with. When I got to the "farm" the look on my face said it all and I indicated that they did not seem old enough. They assured me that they were 9 weeks old and had six of these supposedly 9 week pullets in a small cat carrier with plenty of room to spare. I ordered 2 buffs, 2 lacey, and 2 barred rocks. They tried to give me 2 reds, 1 buff, 2 what they are calling lacies but IDK, and 1 buff/mix that they are not sure about but has green legs and I think is an Araucana. I said that I really wanted Barred Rocks, and she said I could come back in a couple of weeks to get them. When I brought them home my husband just laughed and called me sucker stating that they are no more than five or six weeks old. Also he believes one or two are roosters. How do we proceed? Not sure but omg, never again

I was about to order today...so glad I came across these posts. I am looking to buy 3 pullets 9-12 weeks old to add to my flock. I have 2 pullets that are 11-12 weeks old now for the last month. My plan was to rent a coop from Clark farm to quarantine the 3 new pullets that I was also planning to get from them. Now I am at square 1. I can't seem to find farms or hatcheries anywhere near home. I live in Rockland County NY. I was willing to drive the 2 hrs to get to Clark farm. The place that I purchased my 2 birds I'm leary of since my Australorp was sneezing and discharging from nose 2 days after I got her home. She was on doxycyclene and has recovered. Am now giving my barred rock the same as she is now showing symptoms.
If anyone knows of places I can get healthy pullets, please let me know. They will be quarantined before introducing to my 2 birds.

I’ve been a customer of Clark farm for 3 years and I never had a problem. Yes their customer service is different. They don’t respond saying they got your order and your often wondering when you will get your birds. Makes me think that they are just introverts that love their chickens and wanted to make a small business out of it. Which is perfectly fine. Since I’m an introvert as well.

Note that they do mention that they won’t write back to you until the week you will receive your chicks. And they do note that the minimum order is 6 and that they do not guarantee the breeds you exactly wanted but will try the hardest. I believe it’s for first come first serve, type deal and since i always ordered from them in the winter, i always got my breeds.

I don’t know who Debbie is that you speak of, because the woman in charge is Melissa Clark and she is well educated about her birds. Once you get to know the owners, they become friendlier every year.

Secondly, every chick should be fed medicated food regardless if you got some that had bloody poop. Medicated food will prevent diseases a baby chick can easily get. So I’m sure they weren’t aware of your baby chicks bloody poo situation. They were just saying that as they do to every customer.

I like to note i did get a rooster in my batch once but it was a silkie and i highly understand that they are hard to sex and i ended up keeping him anyway even though technically my town doesn’t accept it.

With all that being said, I’ve read multiple reviews on them and understand why some people would be turned off by the place due to how non hospitable they may be. But their chickens are beautiful and sweet and i never had 1 problem with them. And to me healthy chickens is all i want to have in the end. I’ve read that they are scammers and that is entirely not true. They charge 10$ a chick up to 2 weeks and up depending how old they are. I paid for all chicks last year. My schedule didn’t fit with theirs when my chickens were ready to pick up and i ended up getting pullets but did not get charged more for them because of that situation.

I believe people should try this place and not get so discouraged by some of these reviews.

I will be getting 6 more tomorrow and i can’t wait! They are an hour drive from me but i don’t mind it one bit.
