How do you serve your Oyster shell?

I do like Blooie. I feed mine Flock Raiser, but I have fed them a starter/grower. I have never fed any of mine a layer feed. To me, the protein is too low. When you had treats, that puts the protein even lower.

I put my oyster shell & my grit in a pvc pipe feeder. Doesn't take up any room, easy to fill and easy for the chickens to get to it. I attache them to the hardware cloth with bungee cords. Loves those things!

I took an old tuna can and nailed it bantam-height (since most of my flock are bantams) in the pen. I fill it up and they take what they need when they need it. I used to mix it with their feed but then it was just oyster shells scattered everywhere and it was just a waste. I also use natural sand, I collect it at the creek if I run out of oyster shells. :)

Yea I forgot to mention, keep the oyster shell and granite grit separate. The oyster shell will dissolve in the digestive tract in a day or two. The granite grit could last many days. I keep the oyster sXhell near the feed, and the granite grit under the raised coop. Easier for hens to remember which is which? In my opinion.GC Oh yea the 1.3 quart pails are about $3.00 at TSC
X2

But if your hens free range a few hours a week, you don't need the granite grit

my hens started laying 4-5 weeks ago

i was thinking of getting oyster shell .. but so far so good. i guess 4-5% calcium in the layer feed is sufficient it seems

i guess for my 5 hens.. i don't really need oyster shell or grit.. which is nice
