Just so you won't think I was making this stuff up, the following excerpts were lifted from a book on poultry husbandry printed about 100 years ago........still relevant today. This author was an advocate of putting the nests below the roost bars, with droppings boards between. Again, this from an expert during an era when raising chickens was a critical source of income for folks living in rural areas.
