What do you think of Tylosin Tablets and Eye Drops?

I detest giving injections, and Tylan water soluable is very expensive. I have discovered Tylosin (active ingredient in Tylan)15mg tablets, and Eye Drops available on line. Both are reasonably priced, and seem like an easy-out for a needle-coward like me.

Has anyone used Tylosin in either of these forms? What was your experience, if so? Also, how do you go about getting the contrary little darlings to eat a pill? I have tried hiding them in treats, but my Wiley little birds pick them out.

An alternative is to use Tylan 50 injectable, and give it by mouth. Dosage is 1/4 ml for bantams, 1/2 ml for chickens under 5 pounds, and 1 ml for over 5 pounds. Give twice a day for 3-5 days. Tylan 200 is sometimes the only product some stores carry, and it is 4 times as strong--200 mg per ml versus 50 mg per ml. The Tylan 50 is pretty inexpensive, but the 200 is pricey.
Getting a chicken to swallow a small pill or one cut into pieces can be done by pulling down on the wattles and putting the pill in the back of the throat, then releasing the wattles to swallow. Crushing tablets and adding to a small amount of a favorite treat or feed mixed with a few drops of vegetable oil might work as well.
 
Thank you! I had tried, with some success, putting bits of the pill in peanut butter. I had never realized just how vast my fingers are, until I began trying to use them to insert things into the mouths of young chickens! LOL! Now feel that, instead of fingers, I have big kielbasa attached to my hands! Poor little birds!

I am grateful for the info that Tylan injectable can be used effectively orally. Is the only difference that it is absorbed more slowly? Is there no loss in potency, so far as you know? I ask because, it seems to me, that the dosage in these tabs, which recommend 1-2, 15mg tabs, per kg of bird, per day, is a much higher dose than one would be giving, in administering the injectable orally? Or have I just not had enough coffee...?

The product I am looking at, btw, is Tylo-Dox-Tab, by Travipharma, and also contains 15mg Doxycycline per tab.
