Don't have anything yet but would like to have some laying hens by spring. Gonna build my own hen house and only looking for up to 6-8 layers to start. Gonna need some help with the type of breed and eggs they lay, their care and keeping, and what to watch for. Here we go!

and good luck with your planning.

Sounds like you will be looking for pullets and not baby chicks.

IMO search for local breeders to see what they offer and then research each breed for laying and personality characteristics.

Pay attention to how you want to manage your flock - for those happy in confinement or those who do better with free ranging.

And then which ones have the "look" of what pleases you.
