Could someone please let me know where I could find the SOP for Ole English Game Bantam Brown red? Or is it considered Black Breasted Brown?

Also, if anyone has a photo of a good quality male and female, that would be greatly appreciated. I have a few pullets, and some cockerels, but, I'm not sure what their coloring, and appearance should actually be. Thanks!

This is a common misunderstanding. The "SOP" is the name of a book, the American Standard Of Perfection, copyrighted and published and only sold by the American Poultry Association, the APA. You can purchase the book on the APA website.

What you appear to be asking is what is the standard for the OEGB. That standard, as well as all other breed standards, are what are bound into the Standard of Perfection along with lots of great poultry information that is worth the price of the book. The American Bantam Association also publishes their Standard book but only covers the bantams. The APA covers both Large Fowl and bantams.

You may, perhaps, find snippets of the standard floating around the web, but quoting large potion of the written standard violates copyright laws and is to be avoided. The clubs for the breed would be immensely valuable and helpful to you and I'm sure with three clicks and Google you could find those clubs and their helpful information.

Thanks for the clarification on the SOP and Standard- interesting.

I did try to look into local Bantam clubs, but they are too far from our rural area. Not interested in joining online clubs that charge to join as I have no current intentions of showing or breeding Bantams. I was only asking to compare to find out if my birds are actually Red Browns or Black Breasted Browns out of curiosity, and what color the eyes and feathers are actually supposed to be. Seems kind of crazy to pay to join a club I can't attend to find these things out.

Hi,
Black Copper Marans are Brown Reds. Look for Little Peddler Marans online, (website). Her Brown Red birds are pure French and correctly colored.
Best,
Karen

Hi Karen,

Thanks so very much for your thoughtful reply.

I do have a nice large Black Copper Marans. I know what their coloring is exactly supposed to be... but, I'm not sure this bantam breed is colored exactly the same- it seems very different from the photos I've seen online.

The hackle (and/or saddle) in the BCM are copper, and the eyes, bay (pumpkin). Is the Brown-red Bantams supposed to be the exact same as this? Is there a difference between the male and female in eye color? When I look at this breed online I see that their coloring seems more yellow/straw, and the eyes, brown more or less. This is exactly the little bit of info I was trying to figure out.

Again, thank you for your reply.

Brown Red is the same color/pattern genetics as the Black Copper Marans. Different breed, different name for the coloring, but the same basic genetics. It's a gold/red base color with the Birchen pattern. Black Breasted Red is the same as partridge or 'duckwing'.

Not expert in Brown Red, just know who has them. Not knowledgeable about color variations in Brown Red. An interesting question.
Have you been to the OEG bantam club website? They have a wonderful color atlas of variety colors there. I often use it when I am trying to figure out whether a color is correct or not. they also have an atlas of correct chick down color.
Best,
karen,
