I got A Black Australorp about 3 weeks ago. She is 21 weeks old now. She's energetic, been eating like a pig, seems healthy.... or so I thought??

Now I'm a bit concerned because... Well one she's dropping baby feathers like crazy?? You don't see any missing though.. they're just the baby underfeathers. Now.. do juveniles go thru a little molt?? My Barred Rock is 2 1/2 and I seriously don't remember if she did that or not?? BTW the BR seems to be going into an early molt also as I'm seeing her little underfeathers all over now too??

Anyways what worries me is that I just noticed she keeps closing her right eye halfway and sometimes all the way?? I just started putting some saline drops in yesterday but no change.

Then, since I first got her, I sometimes hear a strange sound..?? Kind of like a sneeze maybe?? She's also made this loud PEEP LIKE sound?? It sounds just like she'd said PEEP!! I have usually heard that when she's been eating and it sounded to me like she maybe choked or had a piece of food caught in her throat?? It's not something that she's constantly doing or anything, but just the fact that she's new here with my older BR and she DOES DO IT is what worries me!!??? We lost our beautiful, sweet little angel on June 4th, my Easter Egger, Livie just totally unexpectedly??!!! I don't know what caused her death, however in hindsight and considering a man who CALLS HIMSELF AN AVIAN VET, told me to feed them both some earthworms, WITHOUT TELLING ME they are HOSTS for capillaria and gapes (which I knew NOTHING of BTW!!), I truly, with all my heart, think she had A HORRIBLE worm infestation as she had all the signs!! I was just too stupid to catch them!! AND I should have RESEARCHED before giving her those worms,as I do pretty much do with EVERYTHING I feed my babies!! So I feel just HORRIBLE because I truly feel she died by MY hands because it was i who fed her the earthworms!!!! I cry daily and it's been nearly 3 months since I lost her!!

So that all being said, we got Ebby to live with my poor BR who was actually sooooo lonely that she actually began to CROW EXACTLY LIKE A ROOSTER!!!! LOL

ANYWAYS.. Ebby, the 21 wk old Australorp, DOES NOT have any mucus or drainage from her beak or her eyes or anything like that either. It's just those noises she makes sometimes and the closing of her rt eye?? I MAY HAVE actually scratched her eye with my finger (NO NAILS!!!!!) when I was trying to get something off her cheek and of course she moved at that very moment!! So I don't know even THAT for sure, but it's also a possibility??

I have an entire bottle of SMZ TMP 480mg that was prescribed to my dog but we never needed it after all. Its a sulfa drug and I was reading that this is good in treating URI's in chickens. Is this correct?? Could it also help her little eye if it's a mild infection??

NOW THE BIG QUESTION THOUGH....
HOW MUCH would I give her?? I was going to crush it, mix in water, and just syringe down into her crop with a very thin 1ml syringe I have for this type thing. However I've looked all over the internet and I can't seem to find a dose for this?? She weighs exactly 4.1lb a couple days ago.

Thank you in advance if ANYONE of you kind and so helpful folks would be able to chime in and give me some answers to these questions??!!!

My two girls are MY PETS... they are members of our family just as are the dog and 2 cats!! I LOVE ALL ANIMALS.. I guess you could call me A FANATIC when it comes to animals!! Lol
So I just couldn't bear to lose yet another bird, who I've had to work so hard to integrate her with my Daisy, and now that they're doing so well together... well I'd just end up in the nuthouse should anything else happen to ANY of my babies now.

Thanks so very much to all of you out there!! You've always been such a big help to me!!!!!

She's molting, no worries... if her eye is scratched then it may be bothering her... just give her the drops, don't give antibiotics unless it is absolutely necessary... it can become less effective when it is really needed...
