Hi all!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and just want to introduce myself. I am a chicken addict living in Lake Elsinore, but moving soon to Central Oregon. I currently have 5 hens, 4 Americanas and one barred rock. I love my girls, but I will have to leave them behind, but at least the new homeowners want them! Eventually we will start a new flock in the spring at our new home. Hopefully lots more chickens!

On that note though, an interesting thing my new homeowners insurance told me. I can't have more chickens than I would need for my family alone, because of e-coli. I was hoping to be able to sell the extra eggs?

Greetings from Kansas and welcome-byc.gif. Happy you joined us. I've never heard of an insurance regulation like that?? Doesn't seem like your insurer should be able to regulate what you do with eggs. So, if you wanted to sell them at a farmers market you'd be prohibited from doing that? Sounds fishy to me. I guess I'm not getting the connection between homeowners insurance and selling property that is yours....is that a state law? idunno.gif

I have no idea? She was just asking questions like "do you have livestock" and I told her we would be getting chickens in the spring. That was when she told me to make sure it's only enough chickens for my family because of the E-coli. Probably a liability thing. But it still concerns me that she brought it up.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. Sounds like there's a bit of a nanny state thing going on. Guess that you could facetious and include your close or even extended family members in the head count for your family? :) All seems a bit bonkers to me, but such is life.

Good luck and best wishes

That's the craziest insurance policy I've ever heard! I wouldn't even know what to make of that...

I agree that is a crazy policy. I think you need to join your state thread and ask around about that and see what other Oregonians think of it. Could you shop around for a different home insurance company?
