random Guinea death

I started the season with 6 Guinea hens, lost 1 to a coyote attack, and just last week had 1 acting extremely strange. All of my chickens free range during the day, and last week one day when they were in my garden I started watching 1 extra closely as he laid under my front porch, while all the others followed me around. Usually my Guineas travel together so I thought it was weird and that maybe I mistook my male for a female who was laying? I kept checking on him every half hour, and he remained in pretty much the same spot for a couple of hours.Until finally I went out, checked under the porch and didn't see him, I was looking around everywhere , stepped up into my garden and literally almost stepped on him, he was laying about 4ft away from where he had been.. Dead. So sad and at the same time i Was scared for the rest of my flock , so i have since given them apple cider vinegar water just as a precautionary, and watched them closely... Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary? Anyone have any ideas on what could've happened?

How close are you to the road? Do they frequent the side of it or cross? We lost one about a week ago and think it may have gotten hit by a car. It didn't come in to roost at night and the next morning, we found it dead on the lawn which is elevated from the roadside. Maybe yours sustained internal injuries? Just a thought... I hope you get things figured out and that the rest of your flock remains healthy. Very sorry to hear about this. Good luck...

What was the temperature? Maybe he had heat stroke.

I was thinking maybe heat stroke! Just lost the rest of my guineas to a coyote! He must have been camping out here for a long time, came out at 7am, got my last male after attacking the day before, then watched my female hide in a tree, when she came down I heard commotion, ran out.. And the coyote was batting her around at the bottom of my porch! Tried scaring him off but he wouldn't scare til he got her terrifying. The rest of my flock is doing well, gonna keep them in for a while. Thanks for the advice veryone! & yes i never got any answers on my other post glenlee still an issue! Thank you!!

Oh, no... VERY sorry to hear this news. It's just devastating when they are killed by a predator, but to actually try to stop it, not be able to and then witness the attach and ultimate loss of life before your eyes, it's just heart wrenching. So sad for you.... Everyone I talk to on BYC who has had experience with poultry and predators, mentioned an increase in deaths as it gets closer to fall. Probably they are fattening up for the winter, but I wish they would find things in the wild and leave our birds alone! Easy pickings for them.... Are you doing okay? That's an unnerving thing to experience. We feel so responsible, even when we know there wasn't anymore that could have been done. Beware of the time just after sunrise and just before sunset - those coyotes love to hunt during those times. Take care.... thinking of you.
