I try to be nice to the cat. Not my fault he hates me lol
You just have the wrong ducks for eggs. I got 4 this morning, bright and early at 7, from four ducks. I collect them and get on with the day. With chickens you have to keep goin out coz they lay all through the day, and they will eat them, or the eggs will freeze if you don't collect them soon enough.

Lol that could be! I had runners for eggs but got tired of fishing them out of the creek... Dumb ducks hahaha :D

But speaking of runners, they don't seem to need as much "swimming water" as mallards or other breeds, as far as I noticed anyway.

I will have to try again with a different breed of duck; maybe I just haven't found THE ONE yet ;)

Well I'm sure your husband knows all about duck laying habits, but if you keep them in the coop before 8 am, they should all lay in a box of shavings or whatever.
I don't have runners but that makes sense. Runners were developed in Asia to debug the fields. And make eggs coz Asian people like duck eggs. So it makes sense that they don't really care for swimming, as well as their different body shape, not as good for floating.
If you do get more ducks, try khakis. They look the same as mallards so everyone should hang out nicely together. And they are terrific layers
