One of my 3 mo. old BR poults, seems to have injured her leg. I've checked the leg up and down and there's no heat or swelling, nothing looks out of place, however, she's not willing to bear any weight on it. I have her secluded in a large crate in the pet with the other poults. She's eating and drinking and otherwise looking bright and alert. I put some aspirin water in her crate. Hoping she just tweaked it a bit jumping down from one of the roosts. She's the "runt" of the poults, very dainty, and I'm pretty sure she's a she. Any thoughts? What could I be missing? Thanks.

Is it twisted? Could be a slipped tendon, or perosis, caused by a deficiency. Otherwise turkeys can be clumsy and occasionally hurt a leg. What have you been feeding them? Make sure the feed isn't too old. Adding vitamins to the water couldn't hurt.

Not twisted. Nothing seemed out of place (I'll recheck again tonight). I recently switched them (when they turned 10 weeks old) from 30% gamebird starter to a 22% turkey grower feed. Just picked up a new bag yesterday and filled their feeder. I'll add the vitamins as well. Thanks.

Ended up taking her to the vet. She has an infection in the joint near where her toes join. She's on a 7-day course of Clavomox; if she's not showing any improvement @ the end of the 7 days, she'll be put on another 7-day course. Sigh.

Interesting, did it have a wound? How was it diagnosed? I will be curious to hear how it does. How do you get a pill down it? I find it all so interesting. Most times we just have to take a guess. So far we have no vets that will see poultry around here.

Apparently, there was a little nick that I missed. Vet said that turkeys are prone to joint infections at a young age. Bad part was I had built them a hoop run so they could get outside a little each day and they had only been out a for a few hours for a few days before this happened.

Hubby administered the first pill and, apparently, Gertie gobbled it right up (no pun intended). She gets a pill 2x a day for 7 days to start out. I'm very lucky to have access to this particular vet. She's part of the practice we use for all our animals, both livestock & domestic. She has birds of her own and absolutely loves working with them.
