Peafowl/peacock thread!!

Hello!!! Just the type of thread I was looking for. I'm kinda new to peafowl and just added a third peafowl to my flock this morning. The guy I bought it from said that it's a purple peahen, and I was hoping to get some experienced peafowl breeders' opinions on her, such as if she's actually a purple hen. I got a pair of young peafowl from that same guy a few months ago but have little clue as to what they are. They are probably just regular India blues but I'm not expert by any means. Any and all info would be much appreciated, thanks

the one on the ground is the "purple hen" and the other one is the hen I got a few months ago

there is the peacock I got with the first hen. Please excuse the messy looking housing, it's temporary and I will be making major upgrades before winter hits

Hopefully KSKingBee will comment soon. I believe Purples and Cameos look relatively similar for a while and then the Purples will get more color than Cameos. I have no experience with them unfortunately.

Yeah I was thinking that she looked more like a cameo than a purple when comparing pictures, but I've never actually raised either, so I don't really know. Thank you though

Jadyn, I know you are in college now - will you be able to go home for the holidays & get re acquainted with your animals?

Only for Christmas and summer break. I get to see 5 new puppies when I get back. My dog Mocha gave birth to on Monday. All 5 of them are black Border Collies, 4 boys and 1 girl. Then on Tuesday I received bad news. Somebody had got into my White peafowl pen and stole my White peacock Ice. I may never get to see Ice again. I know a person stole him and not a predator because, there's no damage done to the run, the door was locked, no feathers on the ground, and all the hens he was penned with are still there. The hens are sad right now, they won't stop calling. That's not even the scariest part. The scariest part is that whoever stole Ice knows me, my dogs, my peafowl, and their values. The reason why I believe this is because, first I live in the country a way from the city. Second you can't see my peafowl from the road at the top of my drive way. So the person would have to know I had peafowl. 3rd, nobody can get on my property without having my dogs on them unless they know the dogs. One of them had just had pups and has become more protective. 4th, they had to know my peafowl because my peafowl had just got done molting. They would have to know the difference between Ice and my other White hens. 5th, they could've stolen multiple peafowl or my Indian Blue peacock but they left all the birds. They only stole the White peacock. We called all the neighbors and police to keep their eye out for a White peacock just in case. None of the neighbors have seen a sign of a White peacock. Also the thief had to be someone that knows my family because they knew when nobody would be home.

Sorry to hear about Ice, BB. You know that sometimes animals seem to disappear and you will find them months later when you move that barrel or crate out of the way or stuck in the rafters.

The first pic is of two hens, the one on the ground appears to be Purple. The second pic is of a pair of IBs with the cock on the right.

This is terrible news, @Birdrain92 . I'm so sorry about your peagirl.

May I suggest that you contact any nearby feed stores, animal control, humane society, etc. as well?
When Peggy was peanapped, he managed to escape from his peanappers. I think people who don't know about peas may not realize how well they fly and how high they can jump.
Peggy was hanging around the house of a very nice woman who contacted Animal Control and feed stores to see if anyone had lost their pea, and this was the only reason we found him again.

Don't give up hope!

We notified the police. In my county police and animal control are together. So the police hear all of the animal control stuff too. Thank you for sharing brings me hope. I'm hoping that Ice escaped from the thieves. Maybe my hens might bring Ice back. But I'm adding game cams and pad locks to my pens as soon as possible.
