I just recently found a homer, he's very healthy but has a bunged up wing. The concern for me is his droppings are sometimes runny. Before it was really bad and his bottom was swollen and had red patches. I was told to change his feed, chicken scratch/and grit and it helped. His bum is back to normal but he sometimes still has the runs but not always. He is molting as well. Should he be ok? He eats like a horse and drinks well. Any advice would be appreciated.. thank you

Sounds like you have things under control and he is on the come back trail. There are as many pigeon feed combinations as there are fanciers.
Runny poop is to be expected for what he has endured. The odds are remote that your diet would be the same as it was raised on it will take a little time for him to adjust. Plus the fact he probably was getting his water source from who knows where the last few days.
There is a pigeon mix that is available through some feed suppliers but not many have on hand this is what one supplier's mix looks like. He should do just fine on your current approach I must say.



The homer may return to his loft once he regains his health. If he is banded you may find the owner through this site.

Most fanciers do not want a homer that does not know where home is.

That's what I feed mine, because I cant' get proper pigeon seed mix in my country.

They do really well. The layer pellets are great for calcium too.

I also feed peanuts as treats and to get them back in the coop when I call them.

My diet for my homers is very similar to Laughingdogs but not exactly the same. The pigeon mix is not available anymore locally for me either.

Only prob of layer, and or cheap scratch feeds being mostly corn, is theyre real rich n can make messy smelly n excessive dander and molting, n poop lot more loose. Layer added at least, seems to stop probs I've seen n had in birds first got, where now no broken bones for four years now (occasional dislocation of "wrist" but that's it), n my young birds crash around same as all.

A post right before on paratyphoid, got me thinking how supposedly higher protein feeds can have bad association with it multiplying faster in system.
I've had no paratyphoid or other problems on only on layer and tap water, with this year so hot n humid, bacteria mold bugs n rodents sooo muck worse, only possibility getting them sick was song birds that haven't came and nested this year..
