?Mega Zit things in rooster comb? Can't find anything on it. Now with pics

I never got them tested. I called a vet and they said that they had likely been out too long. If it is some form of staff the vet said an injection that would work for bumble foot would take care of it. Punk never seemed to be ill or acting strange. His feathers were grungy for a bit but even they are fine now. I have not worked over the comb again as he really doesn't like it. I decided to watch and see if he acts ill.
I still have the "plugs" I got out and they have not reduced in size so it wasn't a high water content material. I currently believe it is something like a feather follicle/pore that gets something like a zit. Guess I could cut on in half and look at it under the scope to see if the internal structure has any evidence of origin.

I don't believe it was/is staff. There are too many different locations where the pockets are. It doesn't appear to be swollen or anything like that around the pockets, although harder to tell if it is red on a red comb. Best guess is still chicken acne.

The first picture is some of the "plugs". You can see a strand of something through some of them. The second picture is that strand through the scope. The focus is not great but the small strings coming off the main strand are feather structure. It is one very long very thing feather. I noticed looking at these that there is a sack around each plug. I don't know if the staff infections have this sack around them. Again very similar to a zit.

Hmm.... Very interesting.

Staph can come from ingrown hairs, which is awfully similar to what you are describing here. I will say though, If the bird is acting fine, then it's likely not worth medicating for I guess.

Thans for the update!

No worries. You're the first person who has seen something similar I've encountered. Punk does not like being caught and won't come into the place I was catching him. From what I see as I get food close is he seems fine. At some point I will catch him again and check it out to make sure but the comb looks ok with no dead spots or discoloration.

Yeah, my room was acting perfectly fine too. It was entirely by accident that I even noticed them. Glad I did, as I'm sure it wasn't helping, but who knows.
