This good to know, since Meijer's isn't too far from me. Thanks! How many boxes does a 28 oz bag fill for yours? How often do you need to change it?
D'OH! Thanks for the help! How often do you change out the bedding in the nests? Our girls just started laying two weeks ago, and I have pine shavings in the nest boxes, too.
Thanks for the info laceyyates! The cost issue of pine shavings for my floor would be a deterrent for me as well. So, I have found on the ground as bedding I LOVE grass hay. I change bedding once a week. They keep it turned nicely looking for grass seed and other goodies in the hay. I have noticed my coop smells very healthy. In the nest boxes I like pine shavings. I just find this keeps my eggs nice and clean.
I have debated putting pine shavings down before for bedding, but the cost issue always outweighs in my mind. I have a pretty large coop and would need at least 5-6 bags just to cover the floor (dirt). Grass hay is readily available, and it's SO easy to clean out of the coop.
