I know this is probably a silly question but I know that to have a fertile egg you need a boy around but will a female still lay if there isn't like a chicken will? I have 25 chicken hens and one breeding pair of RP turkeys. We got a very large egg yesterday which we think must bee from the RP but it isn't speckled... it is just a very large brown egg. If it was from one of my chickens I really feel for her. That egg was almost 2x the size of a normal chicken egg. Will post pics when I have them. We have never seen the tom mate with the female but we were told by the person that we got her from that she has produced many eggs. They are always together and are friendly. We have had her a little over a month and this is the first egg that we have seen that might be hers. Any help or insight would be welcomed!

It was probably a double yolk chicken eggs. Turkey hens will lay without a Tom, but they are seasonal layer in most instances. A turkey egg is usually white with varying degrees of speckling on them.

Thanks OldHenLikesDogs, This is my first year with chickens, turkeys and my ducks are still to young to think about eggs. So I have all the newbie questions. Thanks again for the input
