Can You Keep Young (8 wk) Chickens in Freezing Climates?

One for sure sure, the black one with real red comb and wattles...... ......3-4-5 other pretty large combs but they're not real red. Dunno
I thought I had 4, but now I believe I only have 1. The others have pale combs and no sign of wattles. One of the lavendars has thick upper legs, so I am not sure of that one, but the Marans is for sure a Cockrell. As for the size of the coop? Cant be helped right now. It's temporary, and they will free range also.

I would say two for sure - the black and the white. One of the Lavenders is very cockerel-ish, another is iffy.

If it's temporary, no problems there. That will do just fine as a grow out coop. But if you keep any more than 3 they will need a larger space eventually.

Very nice coop! I think @aart and @QueenMisha might be right.. I am NOT an expert on this subject at all, but I see his logic in this situation. I think making it temporary is wise. Did you build the coop yourself? It's very nice, (better then mine is gonna look!).

As far as breeds go, I am not getting the most hardy winter breeds, simply because in Utah, it can get really cold in winter, and REALLY REALLY hot in the summer. I have heard that heat can be if not more deadly then very cold temperatures. The breeds I hope to be getting include: Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Polish (or Indian Runner Duck, I can't decide). And Malay (yes, Yes! I know. Malay I am very aware of their aggressive behavior, I'm only getting hens and all my chickens are gonna have A LOT of space. I also plan on building a second coop that can house four chickens, to accommodate the Malays)

I will try to post pics of the Coop, it's looking pretty good right now, I'm just having trouble uploading the pictures.

This is my entire backyard. In the winter they are free range. Not in the summer because they uproot my plants. But the little coop in the picture is behind the apple tree, the bigger coop has a covered Run that leads to the little coop. It will be opened up in the summer (maybe sooner) I have some hens I want to get rid of first that live in that area. They were designer hens and I do not care for their temperament. Also they do not seem as healthy or smart as the heritage breeds.

Right now I have 2 Show quality BCM's in the little coop, that will be moving in with my Silkies in the Garden soon. I just Winterized the outside today with heavy Plastic. I like them to get sun but protection from the elements

This is a better view of the Chicken Condo....And I build the sections that connect them, but not the actual coops. They can go from coop to coop when they are accustomed to each other. I had to put the Silkies in the section that is to the left in the picture, they were getting beat up on but are very happy now.
