Future Coops

Ok so I figured I would share what I want when I move out and start my own chicken business.

Here is what I want,
Two of these, one for breeding and one for eggs



my one for breeding I will have the following breeds
Easter Eggers 2 one roo one hen
Marans 2 both hens
Welsummers 1 hen
Orphingtons 1hen
Silkies 3 two hens one roo
Cochins 1 hen
Brahmas 1 hen
Sussex 1 hen
I will sell the chicks which is why I picked some breeds of hens that go broody and some not just so the broodies can hatch some that are different breeds

Then for my laying one I will have

Orpingtons
Leghorn
Star
Rhode island reds
Barred rocks
Sussex
Ancona
Barnevelder
Marans
Easter eggers
Olive eggers
Probably one or two of each breed

I will sell the eggs
I may sell some grown birds if it's too much for me to handle or if I just want to when this happens if it does. If my future chicken business doesn't work I have a second plan which is this... get a shed and a few hens for myself and family for eggs lol so here is my future plan I just wanted to share. Anyone else that wants to share can to to give me some ideas and others maybe.

Looks like a great set-up. Just an observation, but getting Marans, for example, will certainly give you some nice dark brown eggs, but without a rooster of the same breed, are the resulting off-spring likely to lay such dark brown eggs? Apart from the odd EE and, of course, your silkies, your remaining chicks will be mutt birds and unlikely to fetch a decent return at sale (compared to selling specific breeds). Do you think it would be profitable to raise relatively few chicks at a time ? - using broodies and particularly silkies, will limit the number of chicks that you are able to hatch at a time, as well as complicate management and space provisions.

Do you plan to raise the chicks until momma has finished her parental responsibilities, or sell them from day old? The former will likely cost more in feed than the sale value, and the latter will cause undue stress on momma and chicks. Any potential financial gain could be further jeopardised if you choose to vaccinate so few chicks at a time.

I'm not trying to put a dampener on your plans - these are simply my thoughts. I do hope that you take them in the spirit of me trying to be constructive and nothing less.

I agree with your thoughts, I did change my mind AGAIN (JACOB LOL) and decided to just have a big coop for egg laying purposes and not chicks, and sell started pullets maybe. Thanks everyone
