I thought I knew what hormonal mood swings were until I met a broody hen

Our second broody hen, 5 month old penny, is turned into a feather covered Godzilla. At night and when we aren't around she's in an air conditioned studio inside a bird cage to break her broodiness. When we can supervise her she's in the yard with the rest of the girls, locked out of the nest box. She flaps her wings, screams her roar, and then takes off pecking at the other girls. Our other Cochin broodiness wasn't this hard to break. I hope she snaps out of it soon! She's the chick in my profile pic!

Hey...I think I have her twin. Except mine is wearing an Ancona costume. But she's mean to me when she broody, not the other girls. She will break the skin on my hand with a peck should I reach anywhere near her nest! When. Or broody she's like the perfect chicken. So, I feel - and have experienced - your pain! ;)

Luckily we have silkies/Cochins and they're pretty sweet. She puffs herself up and let's out a growl but no pecking of my hands yet! Have you had any luck breaking broodiness?
