I lost one of my girls yesterday to a hawk. I immediately covered their yard with netting - this was on my "to do list" for early Oct as the leaves were falling! My other 3 girls went into the hen house after the attack and stayed there for 24 hours. They were eating well and drinking. One even laid an egg today. I have been going inside their fence to try and coax them out and finally they came out this afternoon and ate food from my hand. I stayed with them for 15 mins and then left. They went back into the house and stayed there until I closed them up for the night.
How long does it take for them to feel comfortable to go outside again?
Do you think they won't go out because they "see" the netting?
Thanks for any insight.
