This weekend we went to buy some new chickens. We processed 5 last week to clean up the flock. Now we have 1 rooster, 1 hen and 1 Mamma Hen (with 9 chicks). Last weekend we won (in an Auction) 3 Red Burbon turkeys (from April).
So now we have 2 new Serbian Long Crowing hens, and we got gifted 2 Nis Tumbler Pigeons!
So we have all these houses and I am wondering if we NEED to build one more for the pigeons? Is there any where we can put them or do we NEED a special built pigeon loft?
Photo1&2 Hen&Chick nesting/hatching house.... they got the boot yesterday and the pigeons are in there now.
Photo 3 Temporary or overflow chicken house,(space for 6) where the new hens are living until we put them with the flock.
Photo 4&5 our Good Egg Inn, can house 10 hens. May have room up top for a pigeon loft up top?!?!
Photo 6&7 Turkey Run...Small kids shed where they nest and roost at night. Plus covered/netted run where they are in the day.
I read the "rules" and I wonder if we can manage to keep the pigeon babies away from the chickens. We had one "found" pigeon in our yard that the chickens pecked to death to the dismay of our son. I don't want to do set us up for disappointment. The new hens and the new pigeons lived together in the last place, but they had different "houses".
Also the pigeons are older, how old??? But I wonder if we should let them out to fly at all? We picked them up from about 4 kilometers away I wonder if they would head home to the flock?
Thanks for the words of wisdom.
