So the sad story is, we have two broody geese both sitting on nests near eachother or had really. Last night a fox came and took one of our nesting geese. That was heart breaking enough but thismorning the nest started peeping and we found one gosling hatched out and one half hatched out with the rest sticking their little beaks out of tiny holes in the eggs. We weren't sure what to do, we don't have an incubator and we've never hatched eggs ourself before. (If we had been smart we could have transfered the eggs over to the other goose last night but we weren't really thinking about that and didn't realise how close to hatching they were!) My younger sister has since taken the whole nest inside and put them in a warm room away from the direct heat of but warmed up by a heater. We're frantically trying to look up what the right thing to do is. The hatched one is shivering a bit and the one that was half out has since fully emerged on its own. I advised using a mister spray to try and add humidity but I know it won't be the right concentration and in an open room it's not going to work properly but I couldn't think of anything else to do. All the eggs seem to be peeping which I assume is a good sign :) their lungs are definately working. I'm just wondering if you guys have any advice? After they hatch as well we're debating whether it would be wise to put them under our other broody goose after they hatch or if they will be rejected.

Please and thankyou

I have experience with day old goslings from a hatchery-keep a heat light on them with access to food and water (water they can't get into) and keep them warm and dry. They will move to the heat when they get cold and move away when they get too warm.

We had several chicken eggs with peeping chicks inside (mom rolled the eggs out of nest). We brought the eggs in, kept the heat lamp on them and they hatched. Then after they were dried off and active, I put the chicks back under the hen in the evening and she accepted them.

Your other goose may indeed accept the eggs and baby goslings, you just have to give it a try

I am so sorry for your loss, but glad that you were able to save the nest and young goslings.

Thanks so much, we have had 6 successfully hatch out so far, one has it's little beak popping out of the egg and the rest havn't moved or anything. They all seem to be doing well though they're not too great at walking without falling over yet

I am sorry for your loss If you have others sitting on nest outside where preds can get to them I would move them to secure house. Here is a link on how to care for goslings..
