Hey everyone I just wanted to update you guys on dandelion.....this last month has be bad I mean real bad.....her seizures had gotten so bad that we could not keep her safe she was slamming her head so hard that her head and face was swollen and she could not eat or drink without help......so anyways we had our neighbor come over and put her down yesterday it was one of the hardest choices I ever had to make but I feel like her suffering is over.......I just want to thank everyone for your helpful advice

Oh, no...I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Dandelion.

I know how hard the decision is to make (I've had to make it too many times for various animals), but you did what was best for her. I believe that she knew that she was loved and she'll live on in our memories.

You'll be in my thoughts. Take care!

Thank you it was the hardest but the best decision I have ever made......I have learned a big lesson and that is to research before I do things and I wish more then anything that they would stop breeding crested ducks.........I had no idea

I didn't know much about crested ducks prior to your post, either, so you've helped raise awareness in other people, too.

In fact, I had considered buying some Runner hatching eggs until I read that there was a crested in the group...decided to pass, based on what I know now.

Yup I will never buy a crested duck nor will I allow my crested duck to hatch ducklings.......the only way I would ever get a crested duck is from a rescue........I am writing the farm I got her from and asking them to put a warning on their crested ducks and I am going to see if I can leave a review and hope that people read it and stop buying them...I have one that is perfect but it is not worth the risk of what happened with dandelion this has been a long and tuff year

Hi, long story short I rescued a duckling on my back lawn, more on this later. He/she is around 5 weeks old now. When I found this duck, named Lit , he was spinning in circles and flipping over backwards. We've never had ducks before. Lit seemed unable to eat or drink unaided so was hand fed, B vitamins seemed to help and he improved nicely, although a little unco, stands on his own foot sometimes etc, but seems happy. Swims in the bath and in a paddling pool outside. Today we've noticed that his tail is freaking him out, he lives in a plastic bin which is see through, he has a mirror inside in the corner with he likes to sleep close to. Outside of the bin he seems mostly fine, but freaks about his tail and runs in circles chasing it when in his bin. Perhaps he has outgrown it. Anyone else had this experience? Thanks

@Haig Welcome to BYC is your duckling a Muscovy? My Muscovy drakes seem to have this problem when they get around 6-8 weeks old I have no idea what causes it but I have seen a few of mine do this tail chasing thing then they out grow it. Since your lil one had problems in the beginning it could also be something neurological going on if it's extreme. I'd continue giving the B vitamins especially niacin in the form of brewers yeast of nutritional yeast for support. But B complex if you can find it .
