U think hen?!? We have been thinking roo bc it's had very red and prominent comb and wattle for a while but the hackle feathers look more hen-like to me. Thanks!
Are you sure about age?
We're going to need photos of the whole bird. From what I can see this looks like a cockerel quite a bit younger than 17 weeks.

Hackle feathers look rounded to me also, so I'd say pullet (but it does look older than 17 weeks).
The dark feathers around the neck look rooster to me.

Thanks to all! I'll get whole bird pics tomorrow. And I got this one as a week to 2 week old chick 15 weeks ago.
