Shrink Wrapped

Here they are, flopping around like dummies. I know they might not make it, but since they've made it this far I've named them. The yellow one is Cassandra (moisturize!) and the black one is Nick Andros because he's mute. He opens his little mouth but no sound comes out. I have a class this morning and then I'm going to pick up some vitamins. I'm probably going to give it to both of them, although Nick appears ok. I'm going to get some iodine for their navels, unless anyone tells me not to. They are fluffing up and Cassandra is peeping vigorously.
Out of my chicks with issues that hatched like this, I e had 2 make it... I posted in hatching with friends thread too, it popped out star gazing and swollen feet, one leg was away from the body up at the knee/hip... it was flopping then later pushing itself around on its belly. I have it a couple drops of rooster booster vitamin stuff straight from my finger within hours of it being free from the egg. The water doctored with electrolytes and probiotic... I thought it was a mushy chick with heart issues (swollen feet)... it was a HUGE Wyandotte chick... I repeated vitamins next day (it hatched at night)... its name is Houdini. Every contraption I tried to rig it into to hold the leg in and keep it from flipping over n such it would get out of. He's now 10 days old or so, and even though I never managed to really treat the leg for longer than a couple hours at a time, it corrected! He's running around with the others. I. Ought 2 Wyandotte chicks and you can see the difference between his growth and a normal chick, but he's still fighting, and manages to grab n keep his own micro worms ;) So still hope! If they flop all over, wrap them up n put them in a small cup or bowl...give them a few drops of water or vitamins or both and just let them finish up developing, if that's what it is(I have tended to think this way)... the ones I left to flop all over always found the coldest area of brooder, and I wonder if that could have killed them :(

Nick is peeping and sitting up ok. I'm pretty sure he's healthy. Cassandra has wry neck. I'll give her vitamins in an hour or so when I get home. Thanks for the tip on propping her up. (I don't really know genders, lol)

Congratulations!! Great names, too.

I hope they keep getting stronger and grow into big, healthy birds.

Ya, I don't know my Houdini either, but I commonly get males, so it will start out that way lol
My last attempt on Houdini day 3 or so, also he was attempting walking after this

Thanks. I'm going to put both of them in a chick chair. I gave them electrolytes, vitamin e, and selenium. I couldn't find the baby vitamins, but hopefully I can get some later this afternoon. Nick is sticking his legs out in front of him and just sitting on his butt, flapping his legs around, so he is having problems after all. :p Is this all incubation problems or should I be worried my hens are lacking in vitamins? I give them layer crumble and oyster shells. I usually give them boss too, but I'm out at the moment.

Here they are getting fluffy. They are pretty colors, if I do say so myself. I propped up Cassandra, the yellow one.

I wouldn't jump to your hens being at fault till you've had the issue multiple times... I know all my chick issues are between being shipped and my incubation. I just put one of my roosters outside, hoping he gets in with my girls fine (used to live with them till the roosters started crowing -not allowed here), I would like to hatch my own eggs and see if I have better success, then I'll know how bad the incubator and I are mucking things up...well a better idea anyways.

The way Nick is, I've had a few like that, 2 were mushy chicks, 1 snapped out of it... hopefully your odds are better. I've just been being more hands on with my rough start chicks, plus I bought a couple buddies twice now to keep them interested in the world... need at least one lively chick to keep them from just fluffing up n sleeping all the time...or you gotta keep em going (which I can't because I work)...I'll be following :)

Nick has found his feet! He was stumbling around a bit this morning. I'm really releaved. I think a big part of my anxiety was having no experience with newly hatched chicks and not knowing what's normal. Cassandra is eating and learned by herself how to use the nipple drinker. Hopefully she'll teach Nick when he's stronger. I looked at the wing feathers and I think I'm right on the sexes. I'll take a pic later.
