I did something wrong, even though it looked like humidity was fine. Another chick just died after turning in it's egg during zipping. I looked at the other one someone said looked to be zipping and it's membranes were white and dried out. The other chick is the same. I put on vaseline and put a wet paper towel around their opening without covering their beaks. The veins still have blood and the ones that died still had some yolk out. I've put warm wet clothes in there. I didn't open it at all until the first chick died and I only opened it for a second to take the chick out and put a warm, wet cloth in there. I don't know where I went wrong. Will they die if their beaks are sticking out and I keep them moist?

i don't know :( the only one I had that had a shrink wrap, was after my solo hatcher survived, and I tried to give it a few more days :(

Could your heat be too high? You mentioned you had evaporation on the glass on the other thread.
The only time I may have that much humidity is when I add hotter water to my dish and it fogs it up inside the bator.

The chick definitely isn't ready if there are still veins, you're on point with that.

Is the membrane just white? Or has it shrunk down around the chick.
I've had the membrane be whitish and the chicks hatch ok as long as it isn't shrunken around the chick.

My heat is at 101 in a still air. I think it fogged because the damp clothes were hot. The inner membrane is on the chicks. It was white under the shell pieces and outer membrane. I put on vaseline and they are staying moist. As long as they keep their beaks out and keep moist, I'm leaving them alone to absorb things. I didn't break the inner membrane. I think my humidity had been too low before today.

Everything you're doing sounds right to me, although I'm not as experienced as many on here.
I'm not familiar with the still air incubators, but I know they're kept at higher temps.
Perhaps it is just that particular chick? Let's hope so.
Sometimes the chick doesn't make it out of the shell and sometimes we may not know why.

I have been having this issue too.. Im only working with shipped eggs and cheap incubators...

Last hatch had several that looked perfect and only thing I can guess is turning to where they cant breathe... one I watched go through its final throws thinking it was attempting to break out...felt like a dip dunce on that one... getting to the point I just want to open them on day 19 or 20 because they don't get out in time for me...super frustrating and heartbreaking, plus loss of what I paid for them... This round I am doing "dry hatching, though 2 weeks in the aircells are getting too big, so need to add humidity after all lol...also tilting the whole incubator, like the brisneas do, or cabnet type do...

Other than making my own incubator or putting serious money into a quality one, Im running out of things to try with these cheapy things... Goodluck, hope you find answers, because I would like to know too :)

Here's my two guys chilling in the incubator. The blue egg one made that hole in the inner membrane. I just removed the outer shell. And I didn't go lower towards the point than it already had. I might have made the hole a bit bigger than I was supposed to, but after two sufficated chicks, I didn't want to take a chance. The membrane on the brown egg chick is pinker and veinier, so it has only a small hole in the membrane. So far they are still alive. And the inner membrane was white until I put vaseline on it.

As far as the top chick, I'm not sure I would call that shrink wrapped. The bottom one I can't see the opening quite as well.
I'll be back in a moment...
