A short hose is easy to drain, we do that (ten or fifteen feet) for the stock tanks, from the hydrants. A hundred feet of hose would not be fun to drain every day! Mary
Keeping Water Hose & House pipes from freezing in winter

There are a few ways to easily drain a hose, provided that its not totally stiff.
1.) With both ends disconnected walk along total length, and as you walk raise it shoulder height. water will pour out, and when you get to end hose will be empty.
2.) If you have an air compressor, a shot of air will blow out water from hose.
3.) If you have a wet/dry vacuum , attach to one end until no more water is in hose.
I know it is tedious, but thats how it can be done. I like the frost free hydrant solution, but it does get involved in installation.
