@Fire Ant Farm I hope it is a brief flare up, and you feel better soon. Thanks for the well wishes, lots of early wrecks due to freezing drizzle and bridges. It cleared up after a couple of hours. We are supposed to get more tomorrow afternoon and really cold temperatures through Monday.

@kwhites634 Since you are still out did you get a deer?

Hi CC and Banti.

Indeed! She's doing well, those are her kits.

Hi CC and Banti.

Thanks - glad you've had a safe day.

I am tempted to put the dark egg on the left in the 'bator with the others - it's a 60g pullet egg. Just because it's pretty. Anyone try incubating marans eggs with regular eggs? How bad of an idea is it?

I'll have to have another round of talks with them then.

They're a pretty cheeky bunch of girls...

Okay, one question b4 I head out the door:

I have 7 pullets, hatchmates. 1 of them has been laying pretty regularly for a couple weeks; another one started several days ago, maybe a week. Nothing from the other 5 yet. Is that likely a result of the lack of daylight, or more a case of not maturing quite as quickly (like some children mature faster than others of the same age)?

I would say it's a combination of both.

Work: production is up from 20/ month to 45/ month same crew
Family: Dad is 100 years old today and family is arriving from everywhere
Chickens: its raining cats and dogs and keeping them dry in the remaining hours has me beat.

Oh and still have touch of the flu/cold since Thanksgiving.

really no excuse though I'll try to do better. lau.gif

Hello Pensmaster! Happy birthday to your Dad, enjoy the family visit!

I hope you are about done with that cold/flu.

@daxigait - Please stay safe on the roads. :fl

@Pensmaster - Good to hear from you, we miss you when you're not here. Congrats on your father's milestone birthday! :clap

@incubateme - I don't have enough experience to advise you, but other folks have posted good info. I use a separate hatcher, which makes everything easier... (I realize that's too late for this batch for you, just sayin')

@Chaos18 and @BantyChooks - The morning wouldn't be complete without some bickering - thanks for making me smile! (Chaos, cute dog.)

@Akrnaf2 - Nice duck butts! :clap

@minihorse927 - I think I have decided to get Anconas from you, but it will need to be next year, as I am already hyperventilating thinking about the housing needs for the chickens coming in or hatching this year.

@Beer can - I need to start some sauerkraut. Thanks for reminding me!

OK, that's about as much screen time as I can manage. As you were, everyone.

- Ant Farm

Sorry you are sick.

In case anyone lives in doubt that the yard is full of critters we can't see at night, here's an empty feed pan that was apparently of interest to a 'coon:
