EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Only reason you oughta be skeered of gunfire here is if you're wearing a white hat and no orange during hunting season. And anyone doing that should probably be taken out of the gene pool anyway.
Why the white hat?

I'm with you on the gene pool needing thinned.

I just threw like 15 more turkey eggs into my incubator after finding a nest in the yard. LOL Didn't want to eat them, didn't want to just throw them out. :hmm ****, now I have staggered hatches going on. Tell me I'm not totally insane lol
If you're totally insane, so am I.

Just said goodbye to 750$, my annual car insurance.....

Ouch. Mine used to be more than that but I just switched companies and paid my first 6 months for $212.
We had been with the old company for about 30 years. I should have left them long ago.

Yes, it is a US $.
It is after a long bargaining! I took more than 150$ off!
I don't think there is any bargaining here. Just switch to a different company.

PS this comes after having a very enlightening conversation with a really good breeder and very smart person about how much I actually put into my birds and their worth (and mine!)
My electric and water bills are really high. Some moron wanted to buy a trio of my birds and then after selecting 3 of my best birds and him giving me the runaround and then complain, (long story) I should have realized I was dealing with a dunce when he criticized my hens because their combs weren't erect. I had to tell him that their combs are supposed to flop over. He asked, "supposed to or allowed to?" He wanted to show them. They aren't even a recognized breed in the US and he was going to pass them off as his birds.
I started to calculate it and realized at $150, I was giving them away. From depreciating buildings, pine shavings, straw, incubators, brooders, organic feed, pasture seed and then there's labor. High quality trios are now $250 and they may go up from there.

An Oriental lady walked up to me one day carrying something I'd noticed earlier, growing on the side of a tree, parallel to the ground. She wanted to know if it was edible. I'm no mushroom expert beyond loving fried ones, so I told her she better not risk it. Never saw her again.
And you had seen her every day up until then?

...
I had a yoki hatch from under one of my Broodies yesterday..I am sure she will kill it as she is a bad mother. (I think) based on how many cuts and bruises she has given me for checking on her eggs...
Sounds like a good mother protecting the nest like that.

Thanks everybody! I am having a good day mentally. My hand/wrist/arm is the same. The pain is easier when I stay focused on the good. I loved seeing the morel. Bill and I were on our first "official" date up north (after a year of going back and forth) He said he looked out he bathroom window and saw me picking morels and the sun was shining down through the trees on my hair and that I looked like an angel in my hoodie and yoga pants and he said that was the "moment" he new he loved me

Nice readback this morning and a great way to star the day

Nice story.
Morel season had always coincided with turkey season here. Morel season is probably much earlier now that the trees are blooming earlier.

we dont really eat eggs ...

Every year I get a price offers from 3-4 company take 2 chippest and start yo bargain between them ,using each other offer. And after I squeezed the maximum I slice the price to 12 payment with no interest!
I always check and change to the cheapest that give the SAME terms. I never stayed with same company before I have checked and found the it is worthwhile to me.

If the hunter didn't distinguished between your had and a deer B.... that make you
1000

:gig
Wasn't me, was someone else.

The problem is that many hunters shoot at anything that moves. Due to that, I've put up no trespassing signs and only let my neighbours, which are responsible hunters, use the land.
