Should I find new rooster?

I have seen over the years that the best way to get a functioning rooster is to purchase him the same time as the hens. It could be from a different hatching but introduced at 2-4 weeks of age. I got three and selected the two I wanted and each have 15 to18 hens.. He takes care of all 17 hens, It has worked for me, but seems much easier to purchase along with the pullets. At about 2 months I cull other roosters keeping the best two (I hope) .

It's hard to find roosters around here because we are in the city, I didn't decide to get a rooster until after losing 4 of my hens to predators so only 3 had survived (now 1 1/2 yrs old). I do live in a neighborhood so for the longest time I thought I wouldn't be able to have a rooster until we just went for it. My NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR didn't even know we had a rooster until she saw us leaving the house with the Brahma... not sure how she didn't know. We checked with all our other neighbors and they said the rooster didn't bother them at all.. so the feed store that I purchased my hens at never carries roosters. I've missed the window for raising a rooster with them but the first one was older than the hens, we'll see how a younger rooster does. I saw a post on here a while back, someone said "My older hens always teach the young roosters how to behave and treat the ladies by pecking them when they get too sure of themselves."
