I have a lot of wild plants that grow on my property. I have tried to find a good complete source of information to identify them all, but the major players always seem to be unknown. One particular plant is fairly common, the hogs eat it but the chickens ignore it, and I have mild allergies to it (sinus congestion and eye snot when it is pollinating). Any suggestions on how I can identify it?

Here is a picture of the plant in bloom.

Thank you, I looked up goldenrod and you are correct. Now that I know it is safe to eat, I may make a tea out of it.

Serve it up with some of that possum stew, and you've got a nice meal for a cold fall day.
lol. I made a cup of tea from a sprig of the flowers (since it has the highest allergen and lowest medicinal content). No ill effects. So Ill try a few of the leaves next. I've read that the roots have the highest concentration so Ill leave those for later, since uprooting it kills the plant, but it will regrow leaves.
