Kaye's free range turkey thread

GlennLee you would love turkeys. I love my chickens, but if I had to pick just one....it would be my turkeys. Oldhen has a gorgeous flock!!

If your interested in all the different heritage breed colors...go to Porters Heritage Breed Turkeys and snoop through all the different color varieties. I can spend hours on that site!

And they are very noisy too. Thank you. My bronze hen has taken a dislike of me. She makes aggressive noises at me, which causes the other hens to start fighting with her. She will be my first hen to be butchered with the hopes the flock will be more peaceful again. My fuzzy feathered Tom may go too as he eggs her on and I have too many toms.

Oh I am in love with your sweet grass turkeys!! And that hen!! My turks have never been aggressive towards me or other people, but I have one hen who tries to fight every bird she sees. And only displays when wanting to fight. She likes to talk smack. Always trying to start fights with the chickens and the bobcats. Chasing the cats every chance she gets.
Oh, and I'm jealous of your flock!! lol

@oldhenlikesdogs
How are his feathers like that?? He looks like a frizzle turkey!! He is absolutely amazing.
And your black is a Spanish?? Kinda odd looking. I love her

All my turkeys are from Porters turkeys, some are ones that I hatched from the crosses from the original birds and some are from Porters hatching eggs. The black is supposed to be a true black, or Spanish black as they are sometimes called. I had a black Tom but he was eaten a few years back for following me in a creepy manner.

My neighbor and I will have to check out the Porters turkeys website. I love your flock - amazing! That glossy black is stunning. I enjoy your stories as well and look forward to posting some of my own turkey stories. At this point, all I have are silly Guinea Fowl stories, and they are silly! Thanks, everyone!

Oldhen, I'm still fascinated by Mr. Fuzzypants. Have you ever sent his pic to David Porter to get his opinion? He looks good this year, haven't seen a recent picture.

Porter emailed me back and said he hasn't seen it in any that he has kept, but assumes that it a mutation for what's called a hairy in the turkey world. So he's a rare individual.
