Central Florida
We are looking to start a small flock of Brahmas and I was wondering about inexpensive coop set-ups. I'm the Tampa Bay area, Central Florida, so heat and rain are my biggest worries weather-wise. Predators are an occasional problem (we are semi-rural) but raccoons and possums and coyotes generally avoid our property since we have dogs. Chicken hawks are probably the biggest threat. There's plenty of room for them to roam out here.

Considering those factors and the breed, what sort of set-up would you recommend? Basic shelter or something more elaborate? Any locals care to share their arrangements?

Hey there and welcome to backyard chickens!
I would recommend that you build a very sturdy roof since in Florida it rains a lot and you mentioned that is very hot at times, for that I would advise you to put lots of ventilation in your coop so it won't be stuffy and moist in your coop. I do recommend you look for inspiration by visiting this link https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops when you click this link it shows many coops members of backyard Chickens have built from sizes large to small, many coops even come with instructions to build it! I hoped this helped and good luck!
