Over the past few weeks, we've had a ton of poultry additions join us, and well, I know a lot of people want to order from Greenfire Farms here in Florida, but are reluctant to place orders for such expensive chicks or juves.

Well, let me just say, they are great, we actually won our chicks are rarebreedauctions directly from GFF, so we were nervous that we'd end up getting screwed out of "the best" hatchlings. The chicks we won were "Gold Duckwing" Sulmtalers (which is incorrectly labeled on the website, it is a similar coloration, but not gold duckwing). We won the auction, processed the payment a few minutes after and then, we waited.

Next day, we got confirmation of payment receipt and an order number, as well* as a tracking #, etc. The babies arrived to us bright and early the next day. The chicks were LOUD, vigorous, active, and honestly, you can just TELL they come from great stock. They carry their bodies true to standard, and already have out-grown our EEs from Meyer (who hatched a day before them LOL). I'd definitely recommend GFF if you are on the fence about them. I'll definitely be ordering from them in the future. They even marked two chicks, so we're hoping even though we won an auction for straight run birds, they still made sure to give us 4 girls and 2 boys. :) Lovely, lovely people to order from.

Im not a fan of GFF. I ordered some cream legbars a few years ago. They were great people to deal with and the birds were healthy and thrived. Problem was they grew up to be poor quality. The rooster had a twisted and flopped comb. Two out of three hens were more gold then cream and one layed greenish eggs.
With the prices they ask id expect a little better. Just like in your case you got "gold duckwings" that you say arent gold duckwing.

I can definitely agree with that for the most part! The sulmtalers seem to be of good quality from the reviews I've read, but when I go Cemani and Legbar shopping, it'll definitely be elsewhere. I think they have certain breeds they sacrifice quality for quantity (SFH, Cemanis, Legbars, etc) for, I'm not going to be too upset if they don't end up *super* high quality since I won the auction for a steal, but you're absolutely right, at 29.00-59.00 for just day-olds, you should guarantee that those "ultra exotic" are at least of decent quality

I agree.
I havent been on their website for a while but when i was most were priced a lot higher then $29 to $49.
Guess its hard to cull breeders when youre asking high dollar and getting it.
If youre looking for ultra rare breeds and they are the only ones that have them then i can see going through them. But ya youre gonna pay out the bucks.
All in all though i would shop else where and wouldnt recommend them. Even with the rare breeds. Let someone else buy them and then pick some up in a year or two from those breeders.
Good thing about their success is they flood the market with the new breeds and then the bottom falls out quickly and you can find them through several others for a lot less.

I ordered 5 Schijndelaar and two Cream Legbars from GFF's..
1.) the chicks are way overpriced, especially since they don't sex them. It's very convenient for them, they get the same price for roosters as for hens, plus they aren't left with a bunch of roos- win win for them, I get it. It's just that if I have excess roosters in my bunch, and need to sell one or two, I'm going to be laughed at if I try to sell them for what I paid: I'm out alot of $. Ok, whatever. I knew that was a possibility going in, but it's frustrating nonetheless.
2.) The chicks I ordered are UNHEALTHY. They are a month old today, and severally underweight, despite me doing everything right: good feed, clean, dry brooder, clean water, plenty of space, plenty of heat, ect. I have raised several broods of chicks, and never had this problem. I'm at the point now where I am mixing milk with their mash to try and get their weight up. Two of them are so small I had to seperate them, and I still have to crush up the chick crumbles for them to eat it. I've never had to do that past the first week for chicks. I am currently giving a coccis med in the water, but that isn't having much effect, because it isnt coccis, they are just underweight. And no, these are not bantams, they are listed as medium sized birds. Not a happy customer. 2 stars b/c the birds arrived alive, and all be it, are still alive.
