Hello,
My question is, how long can I hold onto my eggs before placing them in the incubator, I like putting them in twelve at a time, usually after three days I have enough, they are left at room temperature, dated, and placed in to incubate, just wanting to know if there was any harm in holding them before you put them in, didn't know or think I should put them in the refrigerator.
 
They should remain fertile for up to at least 14 days on the counter top. In a natural situation a hen would lay a clutch of eggs at a rate of one a day and then start incubating them. Clutches of 14-16 eggs are not unusual. My first broody hatched all 14 of her own first clutch, so the oldest was at least 14 days. Obviously viability will start to decrease as time goes on and in the northern hemisphere fertility of the eggs may reduce at this time of year depending on your rooster.... if he is over a year old and moulting, they are less likely to be as fertile as those covered by a young vigorous cockerel. I believe some people have incubated eggs that have been stored in the fridge but personally I never store eggs in the fridge....can't see the point.
