Duramyiacin-10 (sp?) - all comments welcome

My husband and I purchased 14 chickens that were hatched on 7/28/16 on 8/22/16 and 13- 4 day old chicks hatched on 8/18/16 on 8/22/16 from the same person. Over the course of the last 3 weeks we have lost 5 that were hatched on 7/28/16 and 6 that were hatched on 8/22/16. All purchased from the same person. None of the rest of the flock of youngsters have seem to been infected with whatever this is.We do not have a chicken vet around here and our dog vet said that the symptoms sounded like a problem in their digestive track. They are eating as much as they can, drinking as much as they want but they are skin and bones. They become very lethargic and withing 12 hours of the lethargy setting in they are having bloody diarrhea and they are dead. We have been told that Duramyiacin-10 would be able to help with this. One spoonful in a gallon of water and it will treat all the birds. The ones infected and the ones that are in the same area so they won't develop any problems. I know a lot of you out there say don't medicate with out knowing what it is.... problem is is no one will see my girls and it is killing me to see them suffer. I don't want this to spread through the entire flock so I am asking for any advice possible.

In the full sized chicken coop I am planning on starting to put oregano oil in their water. Does anyone have the dose amount for a gallon of water? I want to do things as organically as possible but I gotta stop the birds from dying. Are there any other tips I can use to keep my flock healthy? All comments welcome

Bloody poop and not gaining weight make me think you have coccidia.
amprolium/ corrid would be the treatment. You add it to their water. I believe Duramyathin is an antibiotic which won't treat the cocci.
I'm not sure about the age of your chicks and corrid but bumping up so someone else can advise.

Bloody poop would be an indication of Coccidiosis. Treatment is with Corid. This can be found at your local feed store most of the time in the cattle section.

Corid dosage for Cocci is 1 1/2 teaspoons Corid powder per gallon or 2 teaspoons of 9.6% Corid liquid per gallon.
Give for 5-7 days - make sure this is the ONLY water available during that time period. Mix a fresh batch at least once a day.

After they finish treatment offer some poultry vitamins and probiotics/plain yogurt.

@ravismomma is correct - Duramycin10 is an antibiotic, this would not be effective for Cocci. You need the Corid which is a Coccidiostat.


As for adding Oregano to your water, this may be fine - you will need to research the dosages, but do this after you have treated with Corid and your flock has regained health.
 
Ok... here is an update on the teenagers. We started the Corid yesterday. Since we have started the Corid one of the silkies started showing the same signs as all the other ones that died did, we really didn't want to loose another chicken so we force fed her the medicated water, and baby food last night. We didn't really expect her to make it through the night but she did. Today she has eaten and drank on her own. She has not showed signs of diarrhea or bloody stool yet and I really hope it stays that way. But I wanted to let the people that might find this thread any interest what is going on.
 
2017 corrid supposed to be RX only. ?????
also saw signs at local TSC today saying so for like the Oxy type products and that pellets with theSafeuard procuct in it, too

Glad to hear they are improving.

What type feed do you normally feed them?

Corid will *not* require a prescription in 2017.
