So, lately my girlies have been sneezing/coughing/"snicking" a lot lately, and I can't figure out what it is! Mom and Dad think it's some horrible disease that if they recover from it, they will carry it, and think that the whole flock should be culled! Their symptoms sound like infectious bronchitis, but it hasn't spread as fast as it sounds like it would be if it was. Can someone please give me ideas! Also, do IB survivors carry? That's what mom and dad are worried about.

There are many respiratory diseases and unfortunately most all of them leave the birds carriers that will pass it to any birds they come into contact with.

Mg, ms, coryza, ib, ilt to name a few.

You need to have the birds tested that are sick to figure out what it is. Once they are tested it is your families choice to cull all birds or run a closed flock. It would mean you can bring birds in but you cannot whatsoever sell or give away any live birdsnfrom your flock ever again.

Thank you for your help. Me and my mom were doing research last night and found that mareks can present itself as a respiratory disease, and can be carried on feather dander. All the girls are molting, coughing, and sneezing. Plus a couple birds are having trouble keeping their balance, and a barred rock died yesterday morning. Now a younger pullet can't keep her head up. We have decided to put the while flock down. Thank you for responding, minihorse927.

I am very sorry to hear you are having to do this but sometimes it is best for the birds. Sanitize everything after all the birds are gone and wait until next spring and get new birds. Best of lucky and my condolences.

They are greatly appreciated

On a much more positive note, next year I will be able to set up some breeding pens

IF I can convince dad into raising *expensive* chickens

Since we've brought her inside, Finch is doing much better. Still a little bit slower and quieter than normal, but she's eating.

Yeah, we let her outside with her friends, since pretty much the whole flock has been exposed anyways
