Hi all. Have some eggs in the bator and curious what they will look like. Rooster is an Easter Egger but looks a lot like a light Brahma. Hens are: golden comet, barred rock, grey brahma.

Here's the question, how do I know what egg color gene my rooster is carrying? I want to breed for a blue egg but have no idea what gene he carries. The lady I got him from has an assortment, including light Brahmas. Here's a pic of my man:

My favorite, grey brahma (bantam)

With EE father the chicks will come out with many colors and there is really no way to tell what colors they will have unless they were pure bred.

I figured as much. EE is just a nice way of saying 'mutt'. Lol. I love them though :)

Your rooster doesn't look like an EE to me. He does have a single/pea combo type comb so he has no blue egg gene to pass on, pretty much certain of that.
He also has feathers on his legs, it looks like, so he's just a mixed breed something or other. If he isn't mean, he's a good one, no matter what genes he has.

What comb indicates blue, Rose?
No, pea combs are linked with the blue egg gene in Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers. Of course, Brahmas and other birds have pea combs and never carry the blue egg gene at all.

I looked at the photo closer and amended my above post to say single/pea combo comb. It's not a good pea or single but the type you get when you cross those.

I agree. As first stated, he looks like a light brahma. She does have 1 female light brahma. Not sure if the male was still around when he was conceived. I say EE because all her chickens run free. Very few are full breeds.
