That is what they say. However a large percentage are actually modified rose, no pea present.
I've done a lot of crosses, mostly with silkies bred to the show standard and pea was present in only one line.
Silkie bred with single comb came out either obvious rose comb or strange looking rose, however when those were bred with single combs they segregated for rose or single. No pea.
In fact some breeders in the past talked of deliberately breeding pea in for this reason to make them actual walnuts.
I think the standard may have went with walnut due to appearance instead of true genetics.
One more evidence of non presence of pea is large wattles on non-bearded silkies. Pea comb reduces wattle size.
