Hi everyone,

I posted these babies a few weeks ago but was told they were still a little young for definite answers on gender. So thought I would repost now as they're a little more grown up.

Previously I was told they were black and red sex links so just wanted to also see if that was still the case?

Thank you all for any help! :)

Everyone looks to be pullets. The reds are probably red sex links, the black looks more like an Australorp or jersey giant.

If your chicks are from a hatchery, the red ones are sex links and definitely female. Their sex is linked to their color, so being red means they're girls. If they were boys, they'd be white/silver on the chest and head.

I agree your black birds may not be sex links, I'd expect to see some red on the throat/chest area were that the case. Regardless, they all look female.

I was going to post some pics but the ones here look exactly like mine soooo,
I got mine from TSC and were told they were red Leghorn pullets. I don't know what they should look like so figured they were as I was told.
It don't matter, I just wanted egg layers, but since they were mistaken on the breed I am worried they are mistaken on the sex too.
Like I said mine look like this, mine a little older but I notice that a few have longer tails while others have sort of a bobtail look, not Cochin but just not as developed as the others. Is this an indicator of sex? Or should I go by the color?
I guess in a few eeks it will sort it self out but you know how it is...can't help wondering.
Any ideas? Thanks!

To ad to my last post....I notice that some chicks are dark headed and have smooth neck but some have light fuzzy feather sticking out on neck like they are later to "bloom"
I don't have much room so knowing what is a pullet is helpful to me, I'd rather not spend lots of time and feed on roosters.

If your birds are basically gold on the chest with white accents. they're pretty much red sex links, and pullets.

Red Leghorns are pretty rare, and they're solid red, no white tips and tails. And a darker red, not soft gold like more sex links.

If they're sex links, you don't have to worry abut gender. Overall, I've not found that tails make much difference at this age. It's more often just normal variations in development.
