Dominique rooster behavior/maturity?

I was able to reach the guy today that I got them from, just for curiosity. He has no barred rock roos.
He has dom hens and roos that all have rose combs.
He has some game hens, mainly because he said they sit well when he wants them to.
Fella offered several times to make it right with me in trade or whatever. No need, I'll just see how this roo works out for a while longer.

My lil dude must have a br or some straight comb gene that just came out. Doesn't bother me, as he would likely be a good use for breeding if everything works out. I don't plan on that, but could in the future maybe.

I gotta research some weasels now. Had no idea they are everywhere. I'll find out what the signs are and look around.
Had a big ole ground hog the other day that was munching leafy things not 10 feet away from the hens. Nobody seemed to care. I will get rid of him for other pest reasons though, if I get the chance.

I think he looks like a Dominique, not a Rock.

Straight combs are recessive. I'm thinking some of his stock has recessive genes for the straight comb, and things just lined up right (or wrong) in this case.

I don't know why he seems kind of tarded. Maybe things will be better come spring, or he may always be "special".

I am seriously laughing out loud right now! tarded, special. Yeah, I laugh at him one minute and feel sorta pity the next. It IS funny.

I don't know the guy I got them from other than our exchange conversation, and today's conversation. My gut and intuition tells me he's a good, decent fella. He was really nice about saying he would be open to anything I thought would make it right even these months later. It was 4 bucks a chick for pete's sake. I aint mad, just curious and learning stuff about chickens. He told me back in March that he just likes the Dom breed and is trying to keep it going. Even though I had bought chick starter, he gave me a ziploc of feed, and a spoonful of some sort of powder to add to water, with a copy of the label that was on the product. I don't remember what the name was, but I did use it just one time the first couple days. Very nice exchange.
I think he's just a hobby breeder with a lil farm and has fun with it. But he claims he really tries to keep good stock going.

I would have to conclude with you that the straight comb gene just landed for him.

Only thing I'm po'd about is I had 9 hens, and now I have 7.

Stuff happens. We do the best we can.

UPDATE
the young dom that disappeared after hawk strike a WEEK AGO showed back up this morning!

I am so confused. Bizarre. Dom hen #1, as I called her, appeared in the yard this morning just after I let the chickens out to forage.
I was back in the house and looked out the window, doing a head count. I must've counted 10 times before realizing for sure, yes, she is there.
She doesn't look injured. She even looks like she may have gained weight!

I live in town. I have about half acre yard with mostly basic old chain link fence, one short section cattle wire, and one short section of homemade "stuff" that keeps them in. Sure they can/could fly over, but never had a problem with them challenging the boundaries. Lots of brush, lots of tree cover, lots of ivy vine mess. I can't imagine where she has been living, hiding, or sleeping for 8 nights. She started laying in August, so I'm sure she left some eggs somewhere over the past week. The others are sorta giving her a hard time, like shoo'ing her away a little. But I suppose that's normal?

Anyway, I am just amazed. I'm grateful!! but really mystified.

And on the actual thread topic, yeah my rudy roo is still sorta goofy. No real problems, just the same. He seems the only one who gets close to her withOUT shoo'ing her away.

She's already disappeared again. Hiding, or took off somewhere. At least I know it was not a hawk.

Maybe she's gone primal, wild, and will just visit now and then??

A friend of mine said maybe she has a beau somewhere. As I said, I'm in town. Technically, we are not supposed to have roosters (noise). I have heard a rooster crow somewhere nearby. Close enough to hear, but not close enough to pinpoint anything other than a general direction.
I can't imagine her travelling and not encountering a "death" of some kind.

This is funny, but baffling.

If I lay eyes on her again, I will do what I can to keep eyes on her for the remainder of the day. At least might figure out her best hiding place, or exit route.

I did not see her after that few minutes this morning.
It didn't occur to me at that time to try to confine her. I was just so surprised and thinking about what all she may have been doing and where..
Later today, I thought about that. I was going to ask you all if I should keep her confined for a few days to try to retrain her brain for "home."

Since there was one sighting today, at least now I can be on the lookout and will catch her if possible.
