Hey guys,

I've been reading about the benefits of sand for bedding so I covered our run with it. I just realized now though that by using coral sand I may be introducing way too much calcium to our growing chickens (7 weeks). Do you guys think it's a problem? Would they be able to control their intake themselves?

I wouldn’t expect this to be a problem. The birds may pick up a few pieces here and there, but for the most part, they should not be eating enough of the coral sand to cause an issue. Now, sand comes in many options and sizes. I want to remind you that the sand you use should be a coarse particle size. Builder’s sand is usually the recommended type for bedding material.
