My son has 2 chickens that he got as an easter gift. (These started our flock) he named them steve and handy dandy..

Yesterday steve (pictured) who we thought was not truly a steve started crowing. Our rooster started whooping him/her is this a young rooster too?

:welcome

Yep, Steve is all male.

Poor Steve...gets whopped so badly.

Next question- they are sadly NOT free ranged as we have stray dogs (not to mention my dogs).
Will they work out a pecking order? Do I need to get a new coop?

Not enough for my liking. From everytging i researched there is plenty. We are down 1 "hen" since steve is a steve lol.

So 3 hens 2 roosters.

Too few hens for even one gentle rooster. It's not the roosters getting along that would worry me. It's how much stress those boys are going to be putting the hens through. Keeping roosters means a flock needs a lot more than the usual space requirements. Especially when dealing with younger ones.

Agreed. Steve might be better off in a new home.

Steve roams the front yard while my dogs are up. Hes quite content there u til i can find him a new home (or build him a home here)
