Last Monday my littlest silkie was injured by my 1 year old. I was not in the yard when it happened and it seems like nobody knows what happened beyond she was hit with a toy. Immediately afterwards she was flopping on the ground and then settled into a very still state. I put her inside with a warming pad, in the dark and the next morning she was at least looking a little better. I syringe gave her water for days and now she stands on her own, but she tends to close her eyes a lot and seems to have no ability to find her water and food. My guess at this point is she is blind. Since I dont want to cull her I would like to talk to people who have delt with this and might be able to give me ideas on how to take care of her better. I hold the bowl up to her to help her drink now, and if I sprinkle her food on the ground she will scratch and peck and eat. She seems normal except for the eating and drinking bit at this point.

Hi.

I am sorry to hear that you've had an accident. They can happen so easily!

I have heard that silkies are very sensitive to being pecked on the head because their vaulted skull doesn't offer the same protection and can very easily get neurological, often fatal damage. Chances are she suffered a concussion. I do not know the prognosis for recovery. Hope you don't mind that I follow along in the hopes of learning.

Best wishes for a great recovery!
