We culled our first and most beloved hen, "Goldie", today. After performing the emotionally difficult task (a first for us), we also performed a very rudimentary necropsy (another first for us)...and are hoping to learn something from Goldie's death.
Anyway, this is what we found inside of her very swollen abdomen.
We have our own beginner's idea as to what we are looking at, but we are hoping to call upon more experienced backyard chicken farmers to chime in and confirm our suspicions. So please tell us, what do YOU see?
If additional information (ex: breed, age, eating, pooping, mobility) is needed, we are happy to share those as well, but I am thinking the above pictures may be enough.
Thank you in advance for helping us try and learn from this unfortunate, but necessary, death. RIP Goldie.
