I got a couple of Light Brahma packing peanuts in the order I got today and I'm wonder what these HUGE chicks might grow up to be like.

Does the breed have a reputation for aggression or anything I should watch for? Just how slow maturing are they?

Brahmas are a very friendly breed. They're decent layers (3-4 eggs per week) and they are generally quite pretty. They do tend to brood every so often.

Hatchery quality Brahmas are not any larger than any other hatchery bird, that is to say they are 5-6 pounds at maturity. Nor will they grow any slower than any other breed.

We keep about 8 breeds. Brahmas are probably our favourites. Very friendly. They eat a lot less feed but love pasture than our other birds. We have 15 5 month olds on a pasture we normally raise muscovy ducklings on. The pasture is still green. That many ducks would have normally trashed it. This is even though we have a sprinkler trickling water in all day most days. Most chickens would make that mud. Very laid back. Our rooster is huge and very laid back but a great breeder. I haven't weighed him but he must be 11 -12 lbs.
The hens didn't come into lay until they were 9 months. Very broody but the breeder I bought from told me they were his broodiest birds. Great mom's. I have put eggs under the broodies in the night with good success. When they are laying we get 3-4 large eggs per week/ bird.
Good luck with the Brahmas.

Thanks! We have a hatchery here but they only do Rode island reds, red legs and broilers. I want to get into different breeds. Ive seen the bramaha breed before Id like to have some.
